Description
This document provides a biography and overview of the legal thought of Bernard Arief Sidharta, an influential Indonesian legal philosopher. It discusses his significant contributions to developing the legal discipline in Indonesia through his translations of Dutch legal textbooks. It examines his ideas in three areas: the foundation for theoretical legal functioning, legal reasoning, and the development of Indonesian national legal science. Arief conducted comprehensive studies of the first two areas, which later formed the basis for national legal science. Unfortunately, he did not fully elaborate on how the legal idea of Pancasila could give a distinctive character to the national legal science he envisioned.
